Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry

This recipe for beef and broccoli stir fry is a classic dish of beef sauteed with fresh broccoli florets and coated in a savory sauce. You can have a healthy and easy dinner on the table in less than 30 minutes!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for extra thickening)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 large head of broccoli, cut into florets
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (or sugar substitute for low-carb)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • Sliced green onions and sesame seeds, for garnish

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Beef
    Season the sliced flank steak with salt and pepper. If desired, toss the beef with cornstarch for added thickness in the sauce.
  2. Cook the Beef
    Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the beef in a single layer, cooking for 1-2 minutes per side until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Cook the Broccoli
    In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they begin to soften. Add a splash of water if needed to help steam and tenderize the broccoli.
  4. Make the Sauce
    Add the minced garlic and ginger to the skillet with the broccoli, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, brown sugar, and beef broth.
  5. Combine and Cook
    Return the beef to the skillet, and pour the sauce over the beef and broccoli. Toss everything to coat evenly and cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the flavors to meld.
  6. Serve
    Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately over rice or cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.
