This recipe for beef and broccoli stir fry is a classic dish of beef sauteed with fresh broccoli florets and coated in a savory sauce. You can have a healthy and easy dinner on the table in less than 30 minutes!
Ingredients:
- 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for extra thickening)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 1 large head of broccoli, cut into florets
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar (or sugar substitute for low-carb)
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- Sliced green onions and sesame seeds, for garnish
Directions:
- Prepare the Beef
Season the sliced flank steak with salt and pepper. If desired, toss the beef with cornstarch for added thickness in the sauce. - Cook the Beef
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the beef in a single layer, cooking for 1-2 minutes per side until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside. - Cook the Broccoli
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until they begin to soften. Add a splash of water if needed to help steam and tenderize the broccoli. - Make the Sauce
Add the minced garlic and ginger to the skillet with the broccoli, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, brown sugar, and beef broth. - Combine and Cook
Return the beef to the skillet, and pour the sauce over the beef and broccoli. Toss everything to coat evenly and cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the flavors to meld. - Serve
Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately over rice or cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.
