“Anonymous Male Celebrity Sues Attorney Representing Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Accusers Over Alleged Extortion Scheme”
An anonymous male celebrity claims he is the victim of an extortion scheme and is suing high-powered Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, who is representing several individuals in civil lawsuits accusing Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexual assault.
The plaintiff, identified in the lawsuit as a “celebrity and public figure who resides in Los Angeles,” filed the complaint under a “John Doe” pseudonym in Los Angeles Superior Court this week. The lawsuit accuses Buzbee and his firm of attempting to extort significant sums from him under the threat of publicly releasing false and damaging allegations.
A spokesperson for Quinn Emanuel, the law firm representing the plaintiff, confirmed that the lawsuit was filed on Monday.
Buzbee, who represents at least 120 alleged victims of Combs, has filed over a dozen civil lawsuits in the past month, accusing the music mogul of drugging and sexually assaulting multiple plaintiffs, some of whom were reportedly minors at the time.
Combs, currently incarcerated and awaiting trial, has denied all allegations.
The lawsuit claims that Buzbee’s firm is attempting to exploit the “explosive allegations” surrounding Combs to target other public figures associated with him. Attorneys for the anonymous plaintiff allege that Buzbee sent a demand letter earlier this month, threatening to release fabricated and scandalous allegations of sexual assault, including claims of raping minors, unless the plaintiff met certain demands.
According to the lawsuit, Buzbee’s letter described the celebrity as a friend of Combs based on their frequent attendance at similar high-profile events. The plaintiff’s attorneys argue that these baseless accusations are a calculated attempt to destroy their client’s reputation for financial gain.
The lawsuit further states that the anonymous celebrity is filing under a pseudonym to protect himself from “irreparable harm to reputation.”
Buzbee has denied the extortion allegations in a public Instagram post, asserting that his firm “won’t allow the powerful and their high-dollar lawyers to intimidate or silence sexual assault survivors.”
Questions Raised About Claims by Anonymous Accusers in Lawsuit Against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
In the lawsuit, the anonymous celebrity commends the bravery of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ accusers who have filed lawsuits under their real names but casts doubt on some of the allegations made by plaintiffs filing anonymously as “Jane Doe” or “John Doe.” The lawsuit points out that Buzbee’s firm has “managed to find some 120 plaintiffs” who claim to have been sexually assaulted by Combs, suggesting that the volume of anonymous accusations raises concerns about their credibility.
The lawsuit further accuses Buzbee of exploiting the courage of victims who have come forward publicly, claiming he has created “a pocket industry” where anonymous accusers are used to “shakedown innocent celebrities, politicians, and businesspeople” for financial gain.
A recent court ruling also highlighted the potential issues with anonymous filings. Last month, a judge ruled that one of Buzbee’s civil suits against Combs could not proceed with the female accuser filing under a pseudonym, stating that Combs had the right to investigate and defend himself against the claims. After the judge’s decision to deny the “Jane Doe” status, the accuser refiled her lawsuit under her real name.
Buzbee Defends Use of Anonymous Filings, Claims Clients Are Ready to Reveal Identities
Tony Buzbee explained that his firm initially files cases anonymously to protect the safety and privacy of his clients. However, he emphasized that each of his 120 clients is prepared to publicly testify and reveal their identities when necessary.
“They think that if the person’s name is revealed, maybe they’ll crawl back under a rock and we’ll never hear from them again,” Buzbee said. “I’ve told every client when we file your case, be prepared that your identity will be revealed.”
Buzbee has also expressed his belief that Sean Combs did not act alone in the alleged misconduct. In a press conference last month, he stated that his clients had provided information implicating other celebrities, entertainment executives, business figures, and high-profile individuals who were allegedly complicit in or involved with Combs’ alleged abuse.
However, in the lawsuit filed this week, the anonymous celebrity’s attorneys present a starkly different perspective. They argue that Buzbee’s efforts represent “a cynical extortion scheme dressed up in the pursuit of justice for victims of sexual abuse.” The lawsuit asserts that the defendants are “corrupting this righteous cause” by attempting to “monetize the victimization of the women who suffered at the hands of this one guy.”
