Money Bag Dumplings

Money Bag Dumplings are delightful, bite-sized dumplings shaped like traditional fabric money pouches tied at the top. These dumplings are often enjoyed during Lunar New Year celebrations as they symbolize wealth, prosperity, and good fortune

Ingredients

  • Dumpling Wrapper: Yellow dumpling wrappers to resemble golden money pouches.
  • Filling:
    • 200g ground pork
    • 1 cup napa cabbage, finely chopped
    • 1 tablespoon salt
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
    • 2 green onions, finely chopped
    • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
    • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
    • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
    • 1 egg
    • Chives for tying

Directions

  1. Prepare the Cabbage: In a bowl, mix the chopped cabbage with 1 tablespoon of salt. Let it sit for 15 minutes, then squeeze out the excess liquid and set aside.
  2. Make the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, prepared cabbage, garlic, ginger, green onions, soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, white pepper, and egg. Mix until the filling forms a sticky paste.
  3. Prepare the Wrappers: Roll each dumpling wrapper to create more surface area for folding.
  4. Fill the Dumplings: Place 1 tablespoon of filling into the center of each wrapper. Gather the edges together to form a small pouch and pinch to seal.
  5. Tie the Dumplings: Wrap a chive around the top of each dumpling and tie it closed.
  6. Steam the Dumplings: Place the dumplings in a bamboo steamer. Cover and steam over boiling water for about 10 minutes or until cooked through.
  7. Serve: Serve the money bag dumplings hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Enjoy these delicious dumplings and may they bring you good fortune! 🥟✨
